Do the Russian electronic train tickets have to be printed out?

We are often asked if it is necessary to print out electronic tickets in order to board the train. In fact, on the most of trains you do not need a printed ticket and it is enough just to show the ticket on your mobile device and your passport. Actually, showing just the passport is enough in most cases. There are routes, though, where you do need a printed e-ticket. That is why we are publishing the official rules of the Russian Railways.

As of today, the rules are the following:

Boarding the train
According to the contract of carriage the operator shall transport the passenger from the departure station to the destination station and provide the passenger with the guaranteed space in the carriage.

The passenger using the long-distance services, must present the valid e-ticket and the identification document, which was used for the purchase of the ticket. Children under 14 years old are allowed to travel with the notary verified copy of birth certificate. The copy must contain the last name of the passenger and the identification number.

Boarding the train with electronic registration:

in commuter trains, operating on the territory of Russian Federation, the passenger should validate his/her right for travel with the printed e-ticket (A4 paper) or with e-ticket shown on the electronic device and with the identification document, which was used for the purchase of the ticket (children under 14 years old are allowed to travel with the notary verified copy of birth certificate);

in the trains operating on the routes between Russia and Latvia, Russia and Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan, Russia and Lithuania, Russia and Kirghizia, Russia and Estonia, the passenger should validate his/her right for travel with the identification document, which was used for the purchase of the ticket. It is recommended, to have the order form with the train’s information. Attention! For the departures from Vilnius, it is necessary to present the printed e-ticket (A4 paper);

in the train №9/10 Moscow – Warsaw – Moscow, the passenger should validate his/her right for travel with the printed e-ticket (A4 paper) and with the identification document, which was used for the purchase of the ticket.

in the trains: St. Petersburg –Helsinki – St. Petersburg “Allegro”, № 32/31 Moscow – Helsinki – Moscow, №32 Moscow – Helsinki, № 13/14 Moscow – Berlin – Moscow, № 17/18 Moscow – Nice – Moscow, № 21/22 Moscow – Prague – Moscow, including the direct carriages: Moscow – Vienna – Moscow, Moscow – Karlovy Vary – Cheb – Moscow, St. Petersburg – Prague – St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg – Vienna – St. Petersburg, № 23/24 Moscow – Paris – Moscow, the passenger should validate his/her right for travel with the printed e-ticket (A4 paper) or with e-ticket shown on the electronic device and with the identification document, which was used for the purchase of the ticket.

Attention! If you have canceled the electronic registration service, after receiving the paper ticket from the ticket office or from the self-service terminal, you should present the received boarding coupon in order to board the train.

The boarding the train with the boarding coupon on the travel document – equals to the paper tickets.

in the domestic trains, operating on the territory of Russian Federation, in case if the passenger validate his/her right for travel with the boarding coupon on the travel document and with the identification document, which was used for the purchase of the e-ticket (children under 14 years old are allowed to travel with the notary verified copy of birth certificate);

in trains, operating between Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Latvian Republic, Lithuanian Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Abkhazia, the passenger should validate his/her right for travel with the  boarding coupon on the travel document and with the identification document, which was used for the purchase of the e-ticket;

in the trains, operating on international routes (non-CIS states), the passenger should validate his/her right for travel with the boarding coupon on the travel document and with the identification document, which was used for the purchase of the e-ticket.

If the name of the passenger and the number of the identification document, indicated in the identification document do not match with the name of the passenger and the number of the identification document indicated in the e-ticket, the passenger will be denied the right to board the train.

E-tickets are not transferable and are valid only with the supporting identification document proving the ownership of the ticket. Resellingofane-ticketisnotallowed.
