Russian Railways to create joint venture with Moscow Metropolitan
Russian Railways is partnering with the Moscow Metropolitan to create a joint venture responsible for building up infrastructure to help drivers reach metro stations without train stations.
The new venture, RV-Metro, will alleviate the city's numerous commuters by making access to the city easier. The plan is to create so called park and ride zones where drivers park their cars well outside the city then take the train to the nearest metro station. This system is popular is many western countries.
Plans are already in place for several metro stations to undergo renovations. The new park and ride zones will feature multi-story parking as well as retail infrastructure for press, floral, fast food and travel merchandise shops.
The agreement betwen Russian Railways and the Moscow government concerns 63 metro stations and investments are estimated to be $3 million per station.
