The construction works for the FIFA World Cup 2018 are soon to be completed at the railway stations

11 cities-participants have started the construction work at their railway stations in order to be ready to host FIFA-2018 World Cup. The total amount of investment reaches 8.6 billion rubles. The program of reconstruction involved 31 railway stations. In Sochi, Kazan, and Moscow such works have been already completed earlier, during the Universiade-2013, Winter Olimpic Games-2014, and Confederation Cup-2017.

The works have been already completed at the stations in Kaliningrad, Samara, Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg and 5 complexes in St. Petersburg. The most ambitious works were planned for Nizhny Novgorod and Volgograd, they are planned to be completed in May 2018. In case of Nizhny Novgorod, the station required a complete reconstruction in order to meet international standards. While in Volgograd in addition to the main works, the large-scale restoration works are being completed. All stages require additional negotiations with the cultural heritage bodies and scrupulous and responsible approach.

In the projects of reconstruction and modernization of the station complexes for the events of the World Cup 2018, the emphasis is on ensuring transport security: the construction of new 10 inspection pavilions (at the stations of Saransk, Yekaterinburg, Moscow, Ladoga, Rostov-Main, Volgograd, and Samara), where by the end of the 1st quarter of 2018 will be installed additional inspection equipment.

In 2017, work was completed on the reconstruction and modernization of 17 platforms at the station complexes of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Samara and Nizhny Novgorod. These facilities meet all modern international standards of transport infrastructure: repair and restoration of facades and interiors, renewal of engineering systems and safety devices. Particular attention is paid to the adaptation of station complexes to the needs of low-mobility passengers. Voice announcements in two languages (Russian and English), new electronic displays and navigation signs are installed. The "online" navigation via the mobile application "RZD Passengers" will be provided at all the stations involved in FIFA-2018 World Cup.
